Pound for pound, or I should say, square foot for square foot, New
Orleans Square packs the muscle in Disneyland. It is my favorite
part of the park. There are only two rides, a train station, and
no real attractions to speak of but that is not to the detriment of
this wonderfully intricate and ornate piece of real estate. It
is the absolute hub of some of the best dining in Disneyland
highlighted by the legendary Blue Bayou with tables bordering on the
Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. There is also the exclusive
members only Club 33 that sits above the Blue Bayou and the narrow
streets of New Orleans Square.
The pathways are narrow, the stores are small, but look up and gaze on
the details of the buildings and you could be right smack in the real
New Orleans French Quarter. The rides? - try the best ride in
the park (my opinion) Pirates of the Caribbean which sits in close
proximity to the other major ride - the Haunted Mansion. If you
throw in the railroad which stops in New Orleans Square you have 3
attractions which Walt himself had a major role in developing.
It should be noted that while New Orleans Square is fairly small in
size, the Pirates and Haunted Mansion attractions are massive in size.
The show buildings are actually outside of the park. Also, if
you ask almost anyone what is their first great memory of Disneyland,
many would tell it is that first (and quite unexpected) drop in
Pirates of the Caribbean. Now many years later, I still remember
it.
Please note that I have included a few photos of Pirates Lair on Tom
Sawyer's Island. I guess technically this might still be part of Frontierland but the recent pirate theming has a better tie in to what
is going on in New Orleans Square.

Enjoy the decorations of the holiday season in New Orleans Square.
For the Haunted Mansion, this holidays begin in late September with the
Nightmare Before Christmas overlay put in place before Halloween.
Most people either love the Haunted Mansion holiday theme or hate it.
I tend to like it because it is more "colorful" in a strange kind of
way.
