WELCOME TO

MAIN STREET, USA

Welcome to Disneyland and Main St. USA.  Disneyland's Main St. is a Walt Disney creation start to finish.  The street itself is based on Walt's boyhood home of Marceline, MO.  (Walt was actually born in Chicago).  Disneyland is the only Disney park Walt ever set foot in and Main St. USA was Walt's home base during the park's construction and the early years of the operation.  Walt kept an apartment above the firehouse located on the Main St. Town Square.  When Walt Disney was alive, a light was placed in the window of the apartment to let employees know when Walt was present in the park.  Following Walt's death in 1966, the light has continually been lit signifying Walt's presence and imagination.

Please note most of the photos presented on this web page are in slideshow format.  When an arrow is present in the middle of a photo, click the arrow to begin the slideshow and we hope you enjoy your tour.  Along the way you may meet members of our family.

Disneyland Railroad - Main St. Station:

Before entering Main St. itself the entrance provides you with a great photo opportunity - having a picture taken in front of the Main St. Railroad Station.  As in all things in Disneyland, be patient.  Most people wait to get their picture taken while some people just blindly cut in front of those waiting patiently for a turn oblivious, intentionally or unintentionally, to the process.  I'm usually willing to cut some people some slack here because you just entered into a world of excitement and you tend to not think about others around you.

Main Street Hub

At the end of Main Street is The Hub a feature of many amusements parks that originated in Disneyland.  Springing out from the hub are the "spokes" which are the other "lands" of Disneyland park - Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland.

The prominent feature of the hub is the Partners statue of Walt and Mickey.  Around the statue are the small bronze figures of classic Disney characters.

Walking down Main Street towards the hub also draws you toward the park's main focul point - Sleeping Beauty's Castle so the question is - is the castle part of Main Street?  For our purposes, Sleeping Beauty's Castle is part of Fantasyland.

A Christmas Fantasy

By all means, visit Disneyland during the Christmas season if you have the chance.  Main Street wonderfully lights up in Christmas magic and the winter wonderland festivities moves into full swing.  These are pictures of Main Street at Christmas and the Christmas Fantasy Parade.  Absolutely beautiful and yes, they do make it snow on Disneyland's Main Street in Southern California.
