PWe
woke up to a steady rainfall and throughout the day, it never
stop. It wasn't a shower, or a sprinkle, but a full on rain
combined with bone chilling cold temperatures and wind. The
mountains that surround LA were getting blasted with the heaviest snow
they say they had in the last 10 years.
What
are you going to do? We ventured into Disneyland preparing
ourselves for a unique experience. Check out the flags in this
picture.
We
were desperate to stay out of the rain and would do anything to stay
out of the rain. Here is a picture of the Sleeping Beauty
diorama which you can see by walking though the castle. The next
picture is what you see in Peter Pan's Flight when the ride stops and
all the lights come on. The wind had blown open an emergency
door which immediately forces the ride to shut down. It took 20
minutes to inspect the ride (to make sure no had gotten through the
opened door) and power cycle it back on. It was fascinating but
suspended 20 feet in the air was a bit un-nerving. The carousel
ran but the tea-cups never did that day.
PI
wanted to try a knockwurst or bratwurst and the only place you can get
these food items in Disneyland is Enchanted Sweets & Treats found
adjacent to the Princess Fairy Tale Theater. The lady at the
county said we could go down there to eat to stay out of the
rain. No one was in there. (And yes....for whatever
reason....Disney provides tables full of color crayons and pictures to
draw).
Again,
another opportunity to stay our of the rain was to go into the
Innoventions building. It is one giant commercial but it housed
the most amazing thing I seen on this trip - Asimo, the Honda
robot. I was stunned and spooked at the same time.
We
wanted to ride it's a small world early in the day but passed when we
found out it required sitting with your feet in a couple of inches of
standing water. By the end of the day, cold and very wet, we
just didn't care any more and finally got on...
And
after a truly dreary day, and they announced the park would be closing
2 hours early - no parades - no fireworks....This is what you are left
with on the way out. It's why you keep going back. The
magic and detail is unlike anything else.
A
Rainy Day Video Collection
It
rained all day on our last day at Disneyland, the following videos
were all shot in the rain. You can hear it hitting the
umbrella. And check out the wind too. A nasty, nasty
day.
